Lapsed or de-registered projects have lost their active RERA status. This can happen when: the registration period expired without renewal, the authority revoked the registration for non-compliance, or the promoter voluntarily surrendered it. Under RERA, promoting or selling units in a project without active registration is illegal and carries penalties. If you hold a unit in a lapsed project, you retain your legal rights under the original agreement — contact your state RERA authority to understand the project's current status and your options.
